The ‘Otra’ Roberto –
Rob is a little lost, and a little torn between doing what everyone thinks he should do, and doing what he wants to do. The problem is he doesn’t want to do much. I have come to be reliant of him for my own happiness, as I don’t have many friends in this country. This is a quality that I admire in him, as he never tells me he’s had enough of me, or is being suffocated by me.
He almost relies on me as much as I rely on him. One night he said, ‘I think I’m your best friend, and I’m yours.’ I know for a fact that’s why we work together as we both need each other in our lives, and it’s not just someone to have around on weekends, or when you feel like going out.
The first time we met Rob, and his mate Alan, came into my pub to have some hangover food. They looked awful, and they kinda gave it away by asking for breakfast food at three o’clock in the afternoon. I told them about the all day brunch and their eyes lit up. Rob was trying to make conversation even though I knew he was struggling from a big night out.
There was some kind of comfortable attraction to him, as I was feeling like I had known him for years. I knew there was something there, and it was something I hadn’t felt for years. 2 months later I’m glad I went to have a drink with the boys as he is a gentleman and he truly cares about me. At first I thought he wasn’t really my type, but then again what is a type anyway?
Rob’s also had the same upbringing as me, with divorced parents and spilt families. Our pains have been similar and therefore we relate to each other’s stories. He also likes to go out for drinks and is always up for a good time. This at times can be his downfall, as he will not think about the consequences the next day.
He acts like an old man, set in his ways, when he is only just turning 23. The young silly fella does shine often, but he has been knocked in old man manners and activities from his ex girlfriend who was much older than he. He needs to remember that he has a whole life ahead of him, and not to go down the serious road just yet. He needs to fly to Australia or somewhere crazy and just live the road of the uncertain as he may just figure out what he wants to do with his life, and who he wants to be.
