Pitzch aka Peach
On my recent trip to Germany I found people to be quite serious therefore, a little hard to have a laugh with. It was Pitzch, pronounced as Peach, that made me laugh the most with his quirky stories which were told with broken English.
When he was sober he seemed to doubt his English abilities and continued to speak German with the other Germans. Once he had a few beers and some shots in him he suddenly found his voice and from there on end it almost became hard to shut him up.
Each time he spoke he would direct his gaze to me and make sure he said ‘Ja’ at intervals to check if I understood. I would therefore repeat the German yes and say ‘Ja’ back. His alcohol confidence was later on explained as a way to forget about a recent job rejection. He seemed quite unhappy about it as he had worked hard for the company for 5 years on a part time basis whilst studying and now having just graduating he thought the opportunity would be perfect for him. The company did indeed hire someone with a little bit more experience, who was most likely ten years older than Peach. I told him never mind there will be another opportunity along shortly.
Being an engineer he will indeed never be unemployed, or worrying about the rent money as it is a career built and achieved straight from University. I feel like telling him how hard it will indeed be for me to get a job that I love as well as provided myself with enough money to live a good life. Sometimes those two factors do not combine together in harmony although they definitely should. It is indeed one of life’s true challenges.
Peach has these extreme aqua blue eyes that tense when he gets a little animated, which seems to be quite often while drinking. He constantly tries to prove himself to me even though I am somewhat a stranger to him. I think he could be trying to reassure himself why indeed he did not get the job. The funny thing is a do reassure him as he seems to need it more than anything else and he smiles. He drinks a shot. Smiles. And seems happy and content again.
That is until one of his mates, who is filthy rich, takes the left over beer home with him when it is indeed Peach’s house and he feels he is entitled to it!
Poor little Peach found his way eventually.
He did indeed wake up to a nice hangover and he decided against sightseeing around Frankfurt with my friend and I. I can’t really blame ‘the Peach’ for making that decision!
