Julie

Julie comes into my work every day.
She buys a packet of Benson and Hedges smooth and two bottles of cheap chardonnay.
Around a year ago she still bought the same things and came in every day, but she couldn’t really talk.
I asked her if everything was allright and she simply answered ‘I have cancer’.
They took almost everything they could take from her throat to rid the cancer spreading in her body.
Even her teeth.
Therefore she was unable and would always be unable to talk properly for the rest of her life.
All I can say is you would think she would a) stop smoking and b) stop drinking but maybe she just wanted to live the way she always had lived and therefore continued with these routines and habits.
She does seem to be happy.. and most times has a laugh when we talk shop talk.
So maybe … just maybe we can learn from her in some kinda strange way,
