Clayton-
I met Clayton around two years ago when I was working at a Mexican Restaurant. I must admit the conversation I had with him the other night, I found out more about him as an individual then I had over the two years I had known him.
It may have been the cocktail I had that let me ask the prying questions but I think he has just reached a content time in his life that he could reflect and really talk about his life.
He tells me, ‘there was just so much anger under my skin and I just didn’t care about anyone else. It’s when I realised how much pain I was causing my mum… I had to leave. I regret leaving my sisters behind thought. But you know… five of my closest mates have turned out to be either junkies, in gaol, or dead. I could have been apart of that statistic.’
He just actually just bought land in Brisbane and now has a responsibility to uphold. This could be hard as he tells me he has just lost his license for three years, which has led to 100 hours of community service. Therefore he has to put his life plans on hold.
There were times where he had to run from the cops and hide out when he was up for arrest, and these things he is not proud of but he is proud he took the imitative to make a change when sometimes change is the hardest of all things to do. He works hard as a barman at night while running a cleaning company in the day and has also just been offered to manage a nightclub in the future.
When you look at Clayton, you can see a harsh past. But this shouldn’t stop him from doing what he wants to do in life, and to overcome the heartache. His shaved head is now on straight and his eyes are clear. He reflects on his idea of Ying and Yang, and how seeing as he has already been through the shit times, life will eventually even out to good times.
His heart of gold can reflect on life and the decisions he has made and he is only 22. To have learnt some of life’s great lessons already, he now has a head start to try and change his life.
